For some women, a planned repeat Cesarean may ultimately be the birth they choose. For others, pursuing a Vaginal Birth After Cesarean—VBAC—may be an appropriate option to discuss with their healthcare provider.
But there is a huge difference between choosing a repeat C-section after understanding your options and feeling as though you never had a choice in the first place.
After a C-section, there can be so many questions.

What are the benefits and risks of VBAC?
What are the benefits and risks of a repeat Cesarean?
Does the reason for my first C-section matter?
Does the type of uterine incision I had matter?
How long should I wait between pregnancies?
Can I use a midwife?
Can I deliver at a birth center?
Can I have a home birth?
Which hospitals are supportive of VBAC?
How do I know whether my provider is truly supportive of VBAC or simply willing to "let me try"?
What happens if I go past my due date?
What happens if I need an induction?

What can I do during pregnancy to prepare for birth?

There is no single "perfect" provider for every person planning a VBAC.
The provider one mother absolutely loves may not be the right provider for you.

All of those can be valuable outcomes.
Because the purpose of informed consent isn't to steer every woman toward the same decision.
It is to help you understand the benefits, risks, alternatives, and options surrounding your care so that you can participate meaningfully in the decisions being made about your body and your baby.

For some families, pregnancy after a difficult or unexpected C-section brings complicated emotions.
